Wm Armstrong, Martindales and Reay’s Coaches are finalists for Cumbria Family Business Awards

Criss-crossing across Cumbria and beyond are the transport and logistics companies that keep Cumbria ticking. Working hard in all weathers to ensure Cumbria moves forward, meet these brilliant family businesses who are finalists in this industrious Transport and Logistics category…

Established in 1927, the Wm Armstrong Group is a third generation family business based in North Cumbria providing Road Haulage, Warehousing and Distribution Services. Our depots at Wm Armstrong (Longtown) near Carlisle and Wm Armstrong (Glasgow) at Uddingston provide ideal locations for transporting goods throughout the United Kingdom, Ireland and Europe.

Over the last 90 years, the Group has become a renowned provider of Logistics Solutions and Road Transport Services, specialising in Milk and Livestock Haulage. We employ over 200 people in our Transportation business and Truck Dealerships, operate 100 Trucks, 200 Vehicle Trailers and have access to over 100,000 square feet of Warehouse and Storage Facilities throughout the UK.

As part of Wm Armstrong Group, Cumbria Truck Centre operates a successful truck and van dealership offering Isuzu Trucks, LDV Vans, Hino Trucks and as a Carrier Transicold Service Partner; and in 2015 DVSA granted approval as an Authorised Testing Facility.

Martindales Removals was established in 1920. It was purchased by the current owners in 1973 and is now second and third generation working together with over 50 years experience between them.

We rely on word of mouth and repeat trade, and over the years we have moved clients of many of the local estate agents and solicitors.

We pride ourselves on top quality customer service and only take payment after we have finished a job and the customer is totally satisfied.

All the trust and hard work pays off.  We help people move their belongings and hopefully give them a peaceful and less stressful day than often occurs on the day of moving. All our staff are pleasant and help when needed and go the extra mile right through the process from quotation to removal day.

Reays Coaches is a family business, founded in 1985. The head office and main depot is located in Wigton Cumbria, Reays also have a travel shop in Carlisle city centre and a small depot and office at both Egremont and Penrith.

Reays provide a number of services to the local community as well as businesses. The business initially began operating an eight-seat mini bus service in Fletchertown near Wigton, in 1985. Walter Reay died of leukaemia in 1995, by which time his son Chris had taken charge, aged 19. Nearly forty years on the company now has around ninety vehicles. The company employs around one hundred and fort-five people.

Reays provide day trips, UK and European holidays, theatre and concert trips. As well as this they provide several service buses and private hires. They also provide private hires to both the public and businesses.

We wish all these wonderful finalists the best of luck! Look forward to seeing you on the big night! #CFBA2017 #WeAreCumbria
