Expert judges announce finalists for Cumbria Family Business Awards

The expert judging panel appointed for the Cumbria Family Business Awards have today announced their category finalists after a tense judging session held at Enterprise Answers Penrith headquarters on January 24th.

The judging panel, which consisted of Head Judge Graham Lamont of Lamont Pridmore, Grahame Latus of Enterprise Answers, Anthony Smith of Progression Solicitors, Jacqui Jackson of Thomas Jardine & Co, Ben Berry of English Lakes Hotels, Rachel Halliday of Stephenson Halliday and Zoe Dawes The Quirky Traveller debated over six hours before selecting the finalists who will all attend the sparkling ceremony in March this year.

Head Judge Graham Lamont said: “I would like to personally thank all the family businesses who entered, as a family business owner myself, I appreciate the challenges and rewards that come from working with family and understand how much time and effort goes into application processes such as these. Employees to Battle it Out at Cumbria Family Business Awards

Ten Cumbrian employees have been selected as finalists for the Employee of The Year category of the Cumbria Family Business Awards. A specially assembled judging panel from NXT Recruitment; Simon Glencross, Jason Hodgson and Emma Lindsay made their decisions following a weekend of reading a record number of applications and debating their chosen finalists earlier this week.

Simon Glencross said; “There were many extremely strong applications, it was clear to us just how much time and effort had been put into them. The finalists we have chosen each had individual strengths but a common thread was just show much their employers valued and thought of them. It will be tremendous to get to know them better when we meet later this month.”

The Employee of The Year category is one of the most hotly contested categories of the Cumbria Family Business Awards and the finalists are;

Tim Henshaw The Crafty Baa, Windermere
Allan Crosbie The Shabby Scholar, Carlisle
Brandon McKenzie KS McKenzie, Carlisle
Jonathan Robb Hawkshead Relish, Hawkshead
Luke Thompson Simpson & Parsons, Windermere
Heather Bendle Thomas Graham, Carlisle
James Irvin G Wannop & Son, Carlisle
Alex Casson Plato’s, Kirkby Lonsdale
Mandy Wilson Yew Tree Barn, Low Newton
Helen Maud Wilson P C Residential, Workington

The finalists will now attend a special lunch with their boss, compliments of NXT Recruitment. Only after this will the Employee of the Year judges decide on their final scores which will be added to scores collated following the public vote which opens early February. The winner will be announced at the Cumbria Family Business Awards ceremony which takes place at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa on Friday 8th March. The glittering black tie evening will be hosted by The Hairy Bikers. For more information about the Cumbria Family Business Awards please visit www.cumbriafamilybusinessawards.uk
